I am because we are: The Birth of Compassion, Los Angeles, 2021

Built during the bleak 2020 winter lockdown, as a tribute to the people from around the world who joined Ubuntu Army in feeding many thousands of hungry South Africans. As the pandemic raged, a global village revealed itself. Compassion built community. Ordinary, everyday, garden variety people reached out, and supported vulnerable and newly vulnerable South Africans, as they faced the hunger created by devastating lockdown economics. Built as a monument to human grit, ingenuity and love, Ubuntu19 renounces isolation, and demands social proximity, in the husk of the defeated virus.
